There are three branches in the Indian Air Force, in which one can make a career as an officer.
- flying branch
- Ground Duty Technical Branch
- Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch
Fighter, Transport, and Helicopters in Flying Branch. Candidates joining the sub-streams are trained as Fighter pilots, Helicopter pilots, or Transport pilots.
Ground duty technicians and officers in the Ground Duty Technical Branch manage the entire team and also manage aircraft and other Air Force equipment. The sub-streams of this branch are Mechanical and Electronics.
Ground duty nontechnical branch includes administration accounts, logistics, education, and meteorology substreams.
By the way, you will know that there are two commissions in the Indian Air Force. Permanent and Short Service Commission.
Only male candidates can apply for permanent commission, whereas for short service commission both male and female candidates can apply.
Let us tell you that permanent commission can be done till retirement, whereas in short service commission, work can be done only for a limited time.

If male candidates want to go to the flying branch through permanent commission, then after 10+2 can join NDA and after graduation can join the flying branch through CDS or NCC special entry.
NDA means National Defense Academy Exam. For this, candidates will have to clear NDA written test and SSB interview, after which training will be given.
Let us tell you that the NDA exam is conducted by UPSC and is held twice a year and CDS is Combined Defense Services Examination, which UPSC conducts twice a year.
NCC special entry is for both males and females. For this, the candidate must have an Air Wing Senior Division C Certificate from the National Cadet Corps.
Whereas male candidates for both the branches of ground duty can join NDA after 10+2 and after graduation can join through AFCAT or MET entry.
FCAT means Air Force Common Admission Test and candidates have to qualify for AFCAT in all the entrance exams for all branches except NDA and CBSE.
The entry given in the meteorology branch is the MAT entry. For this, the candidate should have done post-graduation in any science stream in Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Computer Applications, Environmental Science, Applied Physics, Oceanography, Agricultural Meteorology, Ecology Environment, Geophysics, and Environmental Biology and scorea d minimum of fifty percentile marks. And the candidates must have studied Maths and Physics in Graduation and scored a minimum of 55% marks in both subjects
As for SSC as far as Permanent Commission is concerned, Male and Female candidates can join Short Service Commission through FCAT, MAT Entry, and NCC Special Entry.
The duration of the Flying Branch is 14 years.
10 years for ground duties, including an extension of four years.

To join IAF, candidates first have to clear the written test. Whether you are applying through NDA, CDSE, or FCAT.
After clearing the written test, AFSB i.e. Airforce Selection Board will clear the test, which consists of two stages.
To clear this step, the candidate has to undergo a medical examination which is the third step and after that, all India merit list is prepared in the fourth state, in which the medically fit candidates who have performed best in the written test and SSB interview will be given Selected and sent for training and thus train you can become a part of IAF

How to Join IAF as Airman
Airmen are an integral part of IAF. Just as there are soldiers in the army, there are airmen in the air force.
According to his trades and looks, he handles activities such as technical activities, policing, security, education, account management, and healthcare care.
Airmen work under the guidance of commissioned officers. Airmen’s posts are divided into trade groups and these trades are like this.
- Group X – Technical Trades
- Group X – Non-Technical Trades
- Group Y – Technical Trades
- Group Y – Non-Technical Trades
To apply for the position of Airman in IFA, you can be between 16 to 28 years of age and you must be an Indian citizen and unmarried.
Male and Female candidates can apply for this. For this, you have to clear Indian Air Force Group X & Y which is National Level Exam

Group X Technical Trades
Group X technical trades include automobile fitter, mechanical system fitter, proposal, and extra.
To apply for this trade, 10+2 classes should be cleared in Mathematics, Physics, and English with 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English as compulsory.
Apart from this, candidates who have completed a three-year diploma in engineering are also eligible for this group.
Group X – Non-Technical Trades
Group X – Educational instructors come in non-technical trades. For this, the criteria are to be a graduate of Arts, Commerce Science stream and BA degree is compulsory for two years of teaching experience.
It is necessary to have a minimum of 50% marks in graduation and B.Ed.
Group Y – Technical Trades
Group Y – Technical trades include Communication Technician, Automobile Technician Extra.
The eligibility for this trade is to clear 10+2 classes with a minimum of 50% marks in any stream and 50% marks in English subject also.
Group Y – Non-Technical Trades
Group Y – Non-Technical Trades includes Admin Assistant, Accounts Assistant, and Musician Extra.
For this trade, one has to clear the Criteria Tenth Class and for musicians, the candidate must be able to play at least one musical instrument out of all these instruments like Trumpet, Bass, Violin, Saxophone, Jazz Drum, Keyboard, Guitar, Sarod should

Group X & Group Y Process is Merit Base and Selection Process is Three Status. the first stage is
- a written test
- physical fitness test
- medical test
After which the selected candidates are selected based on a merit list.
During training, airmen get a stipend of 14600 and after completion of training, group X airmen are given a monthly salary of Rs 33,100, and group Y gets a monthly salary of Rs 26,900.
Apart from this, many such benefits are also given like DA, TA, HRA, and Children’s Education Allowance.
With experience, airmen can also get promoted to the higher range and fill the age criteria and other conditions with flowers.
One can also apply for the position of flying branch pilot and the post of officer in ground duty branches.
IAF officer salary
Talking about the salary and facilities available to an IAF officer, from the last year of training of an Air Force officer, he starts getting a monthly stipend of ₹ 56,000 and after becoming an officer, the flying branch officer gets rest of ₹ 85372 on the monthly salary. Meets.
Ground Duty Technical Branch Officer gets a salary of around ₹ 74872 per month and Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch Officer gets around ₹ 71,872 per month.
